Afternoon.....I've not been around for a while, largely due to a new job, lots going on at home and being busy with my new passion, Slimming World!

Have been struggling with highs for a few days now and wondered if anyone has any bright ideas or anything that you think I may have missed. Woke up with a BS of 28 this morning and have struggled to keep it below 18 all day. Been like this since end of last week. Changed my insulin, changed my needles, increased ratios and background, don't feel like I'm ill and haven't been eating anything unusual.....

Still struggling though...any ideas anyone. Am waiting for a call back from my DSN.

Allison

Have you ditched your background insulin as well and got a fresh cartridge from a fresh batch? Or had a flu jab lately?

Had a flu jab about a week ago. Could it be that? Didn't even think about that.

Quite a few members have reported elevated levels following the jab - myself included! I went up to 14+. which is unheard of for me as I very rarely get into double figures. Another member sounds like she went through the same as you as her levels were very high for no apparent reason, and for several days. Mine returned to normal after a couple of days. Something to ask the DSN when she calls! 🙂 Hope things settle soon.

There are a lot of bugs doig the rounds, they some times make people go high. I hope you are \OK

Hi! I am the one of which Alan speaks! 🙂

He has just directed me to this post! A week after my flu jab my BGs went out of control and no amount of insulin could bring them down! I had continuous highs for 9 days running and was pretty ill 😱

It sounds like the same may be happening with you?? :( If this is the case i am sorry, i had to increase my basal insulin by 6 units and triple my dose of fast acting to get my levels around the 10 mark!

All is back to normal now thank god, they started to come down thursday night and then i had my first hypo in a long time on friday and now they are just as they were before so i really do think the flu jab is to blame, although some people dont have any effects whatsoever!

I hope that the levels you are having dont last too long, but i do think the flu jab maybe having some influence on them, so dont take it out on yourself (like i did) your doing everything right, its just the flu jab being annoying 😡

Thank you. It's comforting to know it's not me!!! Still very high today, 18 when I woke up and up to 24 now, haven't eaten yet!

Spoke to my DSN yesterday and she's convinced it's a virus and nothing at all to do with my flu jab but I'm pretty sure she's wrong. Am starting to feel the effects of high BS now. Tired, blurred vision, headache....hope it sorts itself soon. In the meantime I'll just keep battling!

Diabetes....grrrr!

Are the high blood sugars your only symptom? I would have expected other symptoms to have revealed themselves by now if you had a virus. Hope you are feeling much better soon 🙂

Morning Northerner. Yes, high BS my only symptoms at the moment. I don't feel like I've got a virus at all. You're right, I would have expected some symptoms associated with a virus by now. Guess I'll just keep plodding on and checking lots, very frustrating though. BS doesn't usually go above 8 so this is all new to me!

Thank you. It's comforting to know it's not me!!!

I don't want to change the subject here, but I think that this is one of the main strengths of this forum?

Hope your levels get sorted soon.

Thats ok, glad i could help somewhat but sorry your having to go through this i can totally sympathise! Yep thats exactly how i felt too, was too scared to eat anything coz my BS would just go completely off the scale! Just keep battling through, have you upped your insulin as i found that tripling mine 🙂eek🙂 helped to keep it at least on the 10-12 range ...most of the time

I didnt feel ill either..well i did when the blood sugars kicked in of course but i wasnt like physically ill with cold symptoms or anything so it does sound like the flu jab is having an effect, just keep checking BS and ketones, although i didnt get any x
