Hi All,

I am not sure what is happening to me. Last week I was sick with quite high BS for me.

I feel fine now, no more sickness, but have noticed particularly yesterday I was starving hungry all day no matter what I ate. This is a problem I had before seeing the consultant. I managed to be fairly good.

However this morning I have tested my waking BS (I don't do this everyday - infact I only did it this morning to post on Alans average thread).

I was gobsmacked that I am at 11.7. I have repeated 3 times and washed hands thoroughly in water. I am normally in the 5's - what is going on?
Do I need to see my GP?

Its a bit scary!😱

It's possible that you are still recovering from the bug Lucy - even after symptoms disappear our blood sugars often tell a different story. I'd see how you feel today and maybe do a couple more tests to see if things improve. This is the thing about diabetes I've found - probably if you feel fine and you hadn't got the facility to measure your BG then you wouldn't be worried, but you are getting an insight that things aren't quite back to normal.

Hope things improve as the day progresses 🙂

Thanks Alan - I feel fine - just thirsty!
I will check again tomorrow.

Hi Lucy

I'm sorry to hear that you're not feeling well. This probably does explain the high BGs, I hope that they sort themselves out very soon.

THere's also the possibility that you're dehydrated and this is causing some of the rise. It's a vicious circle with hydration.

But I would agree that you don't always know there's something wrong until your BGs shoot up and stay up, days before any symptoms appear or, in your case, the illness is trying to still fight its way back.

If your BGs stay high, then take some action, but if they behave better through the day, assume it's just a blip.🙂
