An announcer for a live stream of an Oklahoma girls’ high school basketball game cursed and called one team by a racial epithet as the players knelt during the national anthem, then suggested his diabetes was to blame for the episode in a statement expressing his regret.

The incident occurred on Thursday before the Norman High School-Midwest City quarter-final game in Sapulpa as the Star-Spangled Banner began to play. The broadcasters told their listeners on the NFHS Network stream they would return after a break and then one, apparently not realizing the audio was still live, used an expletive and the epithet as the Norman players knelt.

When I was wrongly diagnosed type 2 and had high blood sugars for a long time, it did change me. I would become very angry over ridiculous things and would shout at my kids so loud my throat would hurt. I found it extremely upsetting and wondered what was happening to me. I was, however still me with my own belief systems. I can't comprehend how having high blood sugars can change your point of view! What a complete load of twoddle.

I agree. My mood can change when I am low or high and at times I have been known to snap or say things that I don't really mean (or later remember) however to claim that it could cause you to make a racist slur but that you are not racist is ridiculous.

My mood can change with my BGs too! But they have never turned me into a racist, just angry and blooming difficult to deal with .
Yup definitely the diabetes card.

It's nonsense to try and excuse it with a high blood sugar - funny how he was fine both before and after the 'hot mike' comments... 🙄

I can feel sick, tired and irritable when levels are high, but I don't suddenly feel like that, then suddenly feel fine again! If he'd really been struggling his associates would have recognised it
