Hi @Jill02 if you eat nothing and your basal insulin dose is insufficient then yes, levels can rise. If you under-bolus your rapid acting then BGs will rise. However, if you have bolussed for X amount of carbs and not eaten them all then it's more likely your level will drop and you will hypo.
 
If you have not eaten for some time, your liver may "helpfully" dump glucose into your blood to give you energy.
It is common to see this in the morning when it is known as Dawn Phenomenon but could happen any time of the day if you have not eaten for a long time.
 
Have you thought about doing a correction using our fast acting insulin?
