Type 2
Hi,
I am fairly newly diagnosed with type 2 (readings of 7 on two occasions) and am trying to get control of my glucose levels with diet & exercise. Things are going ok - I test my levels daily and throughout day they vary from 4.6 - 6.6 except in the morning when readings are regularly over 7. Can anyone tell me how to combat this - it's driving me mad. I'm on a LCHF diet and have lost weight and am walking & swimming more. Any advice hugely appreciated.

This is known as the "Dawn Phenomenon", the liver starts pumping glucose out in preparation for anticipated energy requirements for the new day.

Though I don't suffer from this, I have heard that many people prevent this by taking a small snack before they go to bed to fool the body into thinking there is enough energy for the next morning.

Thank you so much Martin - what sort of snack would be good? Right before bed?

I suffered this problem for a few months after diagnosis. It seems to have settled down now. It may do with you in time.

Right before bed yes..... But kind of snack? If I remember it ranged from some nuts to a glass of full fat milk. I'm sure that someone will have some personal recommendations.

Just over 7 is not bad at all

Thank you Mark & Martin - I'll try the bedtime snack & see what happens. Fingers crossed!
