Hi all
I'm type 2 taking 2 metformin per day. I'm currently unwell with a viral infection so hot n cold, headache, nausea, fatigue etc.
on my last test it was 19.8 will this be normal as I'm unwell. It was 13.1 with 0.2 keystones (I think) in the doctors on Tuesday and they were not concerned.
any advice appreciated. Currently just drinking water.
thanks

Well it's normal in that any concurrent illness will shoot our test result numbers up - but whether it's high enough to panic is what you need to know, isn't it?

It's ketones (the word you mean) - and I don't know how high is dangerous, is the answer - only that the high BG will result in ketones.

Is it constantly at that sort of level, or how much is it fluctuating?

Well I'm newly diagnosed so was told my blood test was 104. Nurse told me normal levels are under 10 only had one reading at under 10 of 8.8 which was with the nurse last week. Been feeling ill for a bit and my reading has been anywhere from 13 to the highest today of 19.8. I'm going to test again about an hour as that was about 8 o'clock.
Thank you

0.2 is actually fairly low & quite normal, wouldn't worry about anything up to 1.5 normally..... HAVING SAID THAT with high BG it does need constant monitoring for both BG & Ketones, remember that Ketones in pee lags something like 2 hours behind the blood.

I haven't got a ketone tester they did it at the doctors for me. Don't think my machine does it. As I said I'm doing my bg in a bit so hopefully it will have come down.
thank you

Good news is that DKA is rare for T2's unless there is an underlying problem.... I keep a few pots of pee sticks in the medicine cabinet & use them just to check that I'm in nutritional Ketosis.

The worrying thing is a reading of 19.8..... Way too high & needs to come down or a trip to A&E may well be in order, a later reading of 13.1 is certainly good news. Keep on drinking the water....

I'm going to get some of the pee strips. Good news is I've just re tested and is 10.3 so I'm happier now.
thank you
