Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
I don't think my blood test results are correct, showing 74 after my B 12 injection is this connected?. I have never been anywhere near this level. I take metformin and linagliptin and am type 2 with pernicious anemia, thankfully cholesterol was low.
I eat a low carb, low sugar diet with little dairy in my diet.
Any suggestions welcome.
Thank you.

Low cholesterol is just a fad, and has nothing to do with diabetes as far as I can find out. It is supposed to be healthy, but I can't find any statistics to prove that, only the reverse.
A Hba1c test isn't accurate when the blood is disordered, so perhaps one was ordered to see how bad your anaemia is/was - I suggest you go on eating a low carb diet, but make sure you get enough fat if you are cutting out dairy - it is an essential nutrient.

It sounds like you should make an appointment with your surgery @Kitty53 to discuss your results. Particularly the appropriateness (or otherwise) of HbA1c and how to interpret it with your anaemia (HbA1c measures red blood cells which will be low if you have anaemia).

Are you monitoring your own BG results before and after meals? And what sort of values are you seeing?

, I have a review booked for Monday and then the gp after. I wonder if my meds need changing, despite a good diet, have cut out even more food groups and my readings are averaging 8-10 before meals, too high. It's on my mind all the time, so I rarely slip up. I'm sure I will get some good help, just need some answers.
I have Pernicious Anemia, not iron deficient anemia, a complex condition.

I think the effect on the HbA1c may be the same for pernicious anaemia and iron deficient anaemia, as both involve having too few red blood cells. Glucose binds to the red blood cells, and the fewer you’ve got, the more (I would assume) molecules of glucose bind to each available red blood cell. This results in a higher HbA1c. I wonder, if you’d just had a B12 injection, your stocks were at a low ebb before it kicked in, so the effect on the HbA1c would be greater than if your body had time to process the B12 and had produced more red blood cells.

That is a very good point, thank you. I'm going to ask the gp as I really don't want to be put on some weight increasing meds. Finding this very stressful.
