Hi Nicki,
Welcome to the forum although sorry you have to be here.:(

If levels are going up this high you need to do a 'correction' dose of fast acting insulin. Have you been told how to correct and do you have a fast acting insulin. I have to say that 'mixed insulins' are being phased out in many places because they just dont work well and having swings in levels is very common and means if used long term then this is bad for control. Have you asked about MDI at clinic. My son is now 12 and was diagnosed at 10 and he is now on an insulin pump which he/we find much better for control.🙂Bev

I have clinic tomorrow, yeah have been using correction pen when high, what is MDI you talkin about x

Hi Nicki,
MDI is Multiple Daily Injections. Basically, you have a slow acting background insulin (normally levemir) and then you have a fast acting bolus insulin (normally novorapid). There is one injection of levemir per day and then you have as many injections of novorapid as you need per meal or snack. It gives much more freedom and means you can choose to eat when you are hungry instead of at set times and 'feeding the insulin'. It does mean that you have to learn to carb count and work out how much insulin to give per meal - but you soon get used to that and there are ipod applications and books to make it easier. Do you know whether your clinic offer this sort of regime.🙂Bev
