I was diagnosed with Type2 diabetes last year. My Blood sugar has improved but I still get a reading of between 9 and 10 when I wake in the morning.

That is certainly rather higher than you want in the morning as a waking/ fasting reading, however some people do find morning readings are the last to come down and also some people get what is commonly referred to as Foot on the Floor Phenomenon where the liver is super helpful and releases glucose to give you the energy to function in the absence of food, some find testing actually in bed reduces the effect.
What are you blood glucose levels like during the rest of the day in particular 2 hours after meals. Are you on any medication or just dietary managed.

Sorry to hear your morning levels are a little higher than you’d like @jacquiya

This is most likely Dawn Phenomenon, part of the body’s natural rhythm. The liver ‘fires up the burners’ for the day ahead, either in the hours just before waking, or as soon as you get out of bed.

Some people see more of a rise than others, and it can make waking levels a bit stubborn to come down. :( Keep making the positive changes to your menu to improve your daytime BG levels, and your waking levels should gradually reduce in time.

Some people find it helps to eat a low carb breakfast soon after waking, and others find a low carb late snack (eg an oat cracker and chunk of cheese) can help keep the liver happy overnight.

Thank you for your reply. I will try taking my BS in bed to see if it helps. I am taking metformin after meals. The last tablet at 6pm. I do eat a small supper of low carb food. Ìs this contributing to the problem around 9pm. I go to bed at 11.30pm.

Thank you for your reply. It is encouraging to know that the early morning levels can be the last to come down. I will definitely keep going to decrease the BG levels throughout the day.

Good luck with it @jacquiya 🙂
