I've been well controlled for a good few years now but over the past few days I've had to go to frightening diabetes complication related clinics to discuss major stuff. I had completely forgotten the effect stress can have on blood sugar and the massive effect high blood sugar has on mood and temper.

My bg started off fine but just when you really need it to remain stable mine took off into the high teens and 20's and stayed there despite numerous insulin corrections. I'm usually quite a cheerful person but I turned into a bad tempered nightmare who reacted badly to everything.

It really alarmed me how different I felt, not just cross because my blood sugar was haywire but really livid about pretty much everything. It's given me a good reminder why stable blood sugar within range is really necessary not just for physical well being but for mental well being too.

So true, Flower.....

Stress is terrible for our bodies really :(. Hope you can find a way to relax and your levels come down in range again.

Sorry to hear that stress has caused your bloods to soar and affect your mood. Hope you get back to normal soon.

Thank you 🙂 I'm back in normal territory now, feeling more like me with insulin doing what it's supposed to do. It scared me how different my mood felt and the effect stress has on blood sugar when you least need it. Thank you diabetes 😡😡

I'm sorry to hear this @Flower - glad things have settled down again. Remember, it's not your fault you react like this, it's that pesky endocrine system that is throwing a hissyfit and flailing around like a wasp in a whirlwind 😡

Thanks Alan, you are right 🙂 and now I'm back to my rational self with a blood sugar of 5.5 I know it was down to a pesky endocrine system with parts of the equilibrium equation missing and difficult circumstances. Back on an even keel, calm thoughts, I am not a bad tempered witch 😉

Glad to hear you're back to normal, Flower.🙂

I remember when ol' Dr Boots got me to change my Lantus from pm to lunchtime for no good reason. I was left with no basal cover in the morning and - boy! - was I furious and not my breezy morning self at all. 😡 I remember trying to kick the neighbour's dog (hangs head in shame) I was that angry ...needless to say, I went straight back to my pm jab and peace was restored. Phew!

ISTR Red Mist - only experienced prior to this when I had fibroids which needed sorting - and getting the most awful PMT.

Used to wear me out - I'd feel absolutely drained once I came down off that high. It's not nice at all Flower, so you have my complete sympathy.

Can I make a suggestion, batty though it may sound - if stress highs re-occur - halve the correction dose you'd normally need for that BG. I thought my DSN was completely batty when she suggested that - but I had tried everything else (and she was pretty sensible usually in the advice she gave and the expectations of me as a patient) - so what the hell, I'll try it. Completely gobsmacked when it ruddy well worked.

It might and it might not! There is only one way to find out!

I am a horrible person if I am over 14 ha! under that I am fine. But above I am like Mr Jekyll haha!

Glad you are feeling better with your level and mood xx

Stress effects my bg levels and my mood. Glad yours has returned to normal range.
