I've been well controlled for a good few years now but over the past few days I've had to go to frightening diabetes complication related clinics to discuss major stuff. I had completely forgotten the effect stress can have on blood sugar and the massive effect high blood sugar has on mood and temper.
My bg started off fine but just when you really need it to remain stable mine took off into the high teens and 20's and stayed there despite numerous insulin corrections. I'm usually quite a cheerful person but I turned into a bad tempered nightmare who reacted badly to everything.
It really alarmed me how different I felt, not just cross because my blood sugar was haywire but really livid about pretty much everything. It's given me a good reminder why stable blood sugar within range is really necessary not just for physical well being but for mental well being too.
