Hi,
Hope this is ok to post on this board but I have had a few really bad accesses, one which was recently drained and after finally recovering from it another one has come up which is being treated with antibiotics. Dr has said I have Hidradenitis Suppurativa. Have read a bit about it but does anyone have any sources or links and maybe advice on how to live with it the best way. I'm insulin dependant and have been for 12 years. Always battle with picking on the bad things! Many thanks in advanced.

Hi Ross, welcome to the forum 🙂 It's a new one on me, I'm afraid - hopefully other members will be along to help soon. What are your levels like? If they are on the high side, this can make you more susceptible to infections.

Sorry Ross, I'd never heard of it before you posted so I'm not much help either. I hope you find some answers. Have you looked at the Hidradenitis Suppurativa Trust site?

Hi, I have HS too and have had it a few years. (Another reason I think I'm LADA not T2 as its autoimmune and I am being tested for PCOS as well, another autoimmune condition but anyway!)

The only way I deal with it is by dealing with the abscesses when they happen! My doctor prescribes me anti biotics and a while ago, I was put on a "longer term" anti biotics for a number of months which really helped. They say being overweight and smoking also can make the abscesses more common but I don't think doctors are sure why!! I can go months without any flare ups then get a lot randomly or I'll get one every now and again. It's unpredictable but very manageable. I just make sure that when I do get one, I ring my GP for anti biotics before it gets too painful and if they burst which often they do, I make sure that I keep the area as dry and clean as can be! Hopefully you can get more advice from a nurse at your GPs although every healthcare professional apart from my own GP has never heard of it! One doctor in a&e actually had me spell it out to him and Wikipedia'd it!
