Persistent hiccups could be caused by COVID-19 infection, according to doctors at Cook County Health, in Chicago, Illinois.

So, a single patient with hiccups is used to frighten the population. Mind you, that's typical of the Daily Express, they are too stupid to actually look at the evidence for the claim.

I used to get hiccups before I ever got T1 if I ate a white bread sandwich. So did my mum, and she was T1 too. Should that be listed as a sign of diabetes?

Hiccups is a symptom of Ebola too 😎

Hiccups is the least of your worries and symptoms with Ebola. It’s a feature of many disseminated cancers, too. It’s also, and by far, a harmless event of life. Rushed eating, one beer too many, some folk find eating cucumber does it too. It’s such a common event, that to ascribe it to any specific disease is speculative. Even non-stop hiccups often can’t be ascribed to anything.

I suppose that the biggest factor is that in the millions who have had the Covid infection, no-one else has reported hiccups as a feature, so it’s hardly worth taking any notice of just one patient.

It won’t be long before a younger patient with Covid develops T1 diabetes afterwards, a viral infection is often the trigger after all. But you can bet your boots, some will call it a direct effect of Covid.
