Hi

My name is Ian and I was diagnosed with type 2 in 2013. I have always struggled with food and in 2019 was diagnosed with bulimia. Today I’m waiting for a knee replacement but before surgery can take place I need to lower my mmol/l levels. So am making a really concerted effort to loose weight and watch the carbs. Very lucky that I am using the Freestyle Libre 2 in conjunction with My Fitness Pal. In week two and so far so good.

Hello @Woody1209 ,

Welcome to our online community and I am so glad to hear to that you are taking steps to lower your levels before your knee surgery. What are your numbers currently at the moment? Have you tried some exercises? We offer a live well move program to help people with their fitness as well.

Hi Josh

My numbers currently are 6.2% for A1c% which I have decreased from 8%. My wake up reading today was 6.1 mmol/l. Because my leg is not straight due to the knee damage I suffer with severe back pain which makes standing for longer than 10 mins very painful. I have my second appointment at the Diabetic clinic on Wednesday so will be great to see what they think of my progress. I have also lost weight in the last two weeks but as I have been away with family have not weighed myself.

Every sympathy with you for your knee surgery, I had surgery for a ruptured knee tendon and tibial fracture in Oct and am still in the recovery phase so still have not been able to resume normal walking of 3 miles per day. I had felt that I had put pounds on due to lack of mobility but much to my surprise am exactly the same.
I have been religiously doing the physio exercises but the knee is still quite stiff.

Welcome to the forum @Woody1209.

Well done on the weight loss and progress you've made with your diabetes, it's good to hear you're taking positive steps despite the challenges.

Hope your appointment goes well and you get the green light for surgery soon. Wish you all the best for the New Year. 🙂
