Hi! It's great to find this website and the community here. I'm T2, have been for about 12 years. I take Metformin; try to be as active as possible and try to stick to a low carb diet. My bloods are usually on target. I'm on the look out for ways to improve my health.

Hi there. Do you have specific health issues that you want to improve on, or just in general? It sounds as though you have the diabetes pretty much under control, well done on that score. I'm still pretty new so still slip-sliding on the learning curve. 🙂

Thanks Inka.
Hi janw, I want to get off the metformin and be meds free, so I'm psyching myself up to do the Newcastle diet/fast 800.
Well done for your weight loss.

I wish you every luck. So far I've managed to stay off the meds, but I won't have another check up until April now, so have to keep myself in check. Ho-hum. Might have to kick my own backside! lol

Welcome to the forum @Billybobby

Glad you have found us. Hope you find it helpful and encouraging to share ideas, tactics, strategies and tips with members here.

We have a few people who have used variations of the Newcastle approach to lose weight and attempt to put their diabetes into remission.

Hi @Billybobby, any particular reason you want to come off metformin? I just ask because when I spoke with my DN at my last review, I suggested coming off them completely and was told that metformin also protects the heart and kidneys to some extent, so I agreed to stay on one a day. I agree that not being on medication is a great thing to aim for, I just hadn't realised that metformin had other benefits.
Mind you, if your bloods are in range could it be that you don't actually need the metformin any more?
Good luck with the Newcastle diet 🙂

Thanks, all. @Vonny That's interesting about Metformin having other benefits, I never knew that. I need to book bloods and a review, so I'll have a chat about it then. That's also interesting that you're strenuously resisting statins- me too!
Maltesers have a lot to answer for!
