Welcome to the forum @madhat

Sounds like you are off to a good start using your meter to tailor your menu towards better BGs, but also balancing the frequency and portion size of other things you enjoy for variety and pleasure.

I think it’s important to develop an eating plan that you will be able to stick to long-term - so balance, flexibility and enjoyment are a vital part of the mix. No point attempting to completely avoid an entire food group (either carbs, fat or whatever) if you know you won’t be able to sustain that approach for long.

Tastes do change ofer time though, so it’s good to allow yourself to adjust to a new way of eating that suits your BG better. Many forum members find after a while that things which used to be a go-to treat completely lose their appeal.
