Type 2
just been diagnosed as type 2 thanks to my first ever encounter with thrush - hab1c was 80. So now am waiting for the practice nurse to see me - have to test bloods twice a day and try to lower my carb intake. So just mooching and information gathering really.

Hello! *waves*

Have you thoroughly zapped the thrush with Canesten, preferably the Canesten 'Once' which is a pessary and a cream, and had advice on washing 'the area' with ONLY water?

And - can you now recognise the important bit for the future - the large variety of carbohydrate in your diet? (ie not 'just' sugar)

Welcome to the forum @philand

If you‘ve not come across them already and would like a good overview of T2 diabetes, to add to the knowledge you’ve already picked up, members here frequently recommend Maggie Davey’s Letter and Gretchen Becker’s book T2 Diabetes, the first year, which you can work through gradually and will give you a solid starting point.

There’s also the Learning Zone, with loads of helpful and interesting modules you can dip into. Look for the highlighted item in the main menu.

Feel free to fire away with any questions too, we have lots of friendly, helpful members and we have centuries of lived diabetes experience on the forum, so there aren’t many things we’ve not encountered.

Nothing will be considered too obvious, too silly, or unimportant. Just ask!

Hope your appointment goes well 🙂

aw thanks for making me feel so welcome guys -

am now wading through recipes to find low carb options (gp prescribed me some delightful anti - fungal meds and pessaries for the thrush as canesten blast wasn't working - also pants and bedding, towels etc are now boiled to oblivion!)

Hi @philand
