I have long covid and along with many more have recently been diagnosed with type 2. When i first joined this group i didn't know my hbc1a number or even what it was. So today i asked the nurse and 2 weeks ago my glucose was 26 and hbc1a was 100. I have a white cell blood test next week but doing well with changing my diet. Hoping to understand more soon.

Hi zelda,

Welcome to the forum. Glad to hear that you've been able to get your numbers as it really helps to benchmark your progress.

We have a wealth of info on the site so have a look around and let us know if we can help with anything.

Hi. Welcome to the Forum and sorry to hear about your struggles with Covid. Those numbers are high but many of us, me included, were higher but are now in a better place through adopting low-carbohydrate diets, exercising more, losing some weight (where needed) and taking any prescribed meds.

You've come to the right place for advice so if you have any questions please ask.
Thanks Martin, I can afford to lose weight, 12lbs down (without trying though) and taking 2 x 500mg metformin daily. Eating healthy is easy enough for me, I just need to tweek and adjust some things like portion control and snacking, or types of snacks. Covid put a stop to any exercise for a while but this week i walked just under 5 miles (in March it was less than a mile) so i am making some progress. I have a few other covid related issues going on (infection in my body and no infection fighting cells doing their job) which I'm told will have an impact of my sugars but my nurse is confident that i may be able to reverse the diabetes or at least reduce the meds.

Can i ask about supplements, being unwell i have started to take vit D & C and zinc and then i read somewhere that they may interfere with meds?

HI @zelda, I'm on metformin and take vit D & C daily. I'm not saying they don't interfere with meds, but I haven't personally experienced any issues and my hba1c is stable at 36 🙂

thanks for that, think i will keep going with them for now as well. so much information out there and some of it contradictive to what i've read already. sooooo confused but optimistic and impressed with everything this site offers practical and otherwise 🙂

Well done and keep going Zelda

Well done on the positive changes you are making @zelda - amd great to hear that your nurse is optimistic about your future results.

If you are concerned about interactions between any supplements you are taking (whether vitamins, or other herbal remedies) it would be worth consulting one of the qualified pharmacists at your local large chemists.

Well done on the increased activity and weight loss too!
