Hi everyone I am 66yrs and today I was told that from a blood test I was close to being diabetic. Unfortunately this was a phone conversation and the doctor was very unhelpful with my questions. Looking for help in what this means. I am a very fit guy run and cycle a least 5 days a week not over weight. Thanks in advance

Hi thanks for the reply was wondering that as I am very keen on fitness and eat a fair amount of veg and other carbs

Hello and welcome to the forum @Faxme333 🙂 It might be the 'other carbs' that are the problem. What kind of other carbs? :D Happy Birthday and many more of them.

Hi Faxme333, welcome to the forum!

It's often a surprise when you're an active person to be diagnosed as pre-diabetic though as has been rightly said it can be down to food types. It might be worth sharing a typical meal / foods you often eat as it can be the least expected aspects of our diet that contributes to becoming diabetic.

Welcome to the forum @Faxme333

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis - it sounds like it came out of the blue? And it’s an unfortunate time to get a diagnosis as the healthcare system are under so much pressure and appointments are different.

Did your diagnosis come in suddenly? Is there any T2 in your close family? Just wondering if you might need to keep a weather eye on the possibility of LADA or another diabetes type. Even classic T1 can be diagnosed at any age!

Might be worth bearing in mind if your T2 treatment options don’t seem to be working as expected over the next few months?
