New member here. Hi everyone.

Hi @Gee1970 Can you tell us a bit about how you came to be diagnosed. It will help with any questions you might have. Lots of friendly and knowledgeable people on here so feel free to ask about anything

Hi and welcome.

Would you like to tell us a bit more about how you came to be diagnosed and how long ago/recently that was, what if any medication you have been given for it and what your HbA1c is.... this is the blood test result which leads to your Diabetes diagnosis and is usually a number of 48 or more. It gives us an idea of where on the diabetic scale you are.

If you are having any particular problems or concerns that have brought you to the forum please feel free to ask questions. It is what the forum is here for and often by asking a question it is not just you who learns from it, but many other people reading it now and in the future.

Otherwise feel free to read through the posts and learn from what has already been asked, which is how many of us have improved our knowledge and understanding of the condition and it's management.

Hi I have explained on a new thread in the main forum.

Thanks for your interest.

Thanks Inca.

I’m just getting used to the site

In terms of how I came across the problem I was noticing various symptoms such as twitchy side of knee, increased thirst and increased regularity of urination, flatulence etc. I did my own test because we have a pet machine used for our cat and noted I was 24 . Of course, it was the weekend and I had to wait until the Monday for the Doctor to assess my blood and everything else. Everything else is good apart from high cholesterol for which I’m starting tablets next week. It’s a concern having a whole set of different meds when the only ones Ive had in 50 years is basically ibuprofen and paracetamol

Welcome to the forum Gee from a fellow T2.

Thx

Welcome to the forum @Gee1970
Thanks for the info around your diagnosis.

With T2 your body is not able to process the glucose in your blood, which is coming from any carbohydrates that you eat, not just from ‘sugars’. (I end up shouting at the radio/TV where they constantly refer to ‘sugar’ rather than carbohydrates)

Simply finding out how many carbs you are eating at each meal would enable you to then find ways of reducing this. You can do swaps to lower carb options and/or reduce portion sizes. We each have to find what our bodies can cope with and match our choices to that.

Keep up with the questions. Nothing is considered silly on here. Just ask.

Welcome to the forum @Gee1970

Hope the meds support your diabetes management, and you begin to feel more well and full of energy.
