Is Herbal life safe to use with Diabetes type 2

Do you mean Herbalife? As in the meal replacement shakes etc?

If so then why are you questioning whether its safe? I can't see why it wouldn't be but it depends if you as the individual you are can tolerate the carbs in it without a massive spike in BG xx

Hi Wayne Guest, I don't know, so suggest you use a Bloood Glucose meter to test. Test before a meal and then 2hrs after first bite. If neither reading is ab0ove 8.0 mmol and the 2nd reading is no more than 2.0mmol higher than the fiste then is is good for a T2Diabetic. - Otherwise either avoid it, or cut the portion in future.

I’ve not heard of herbalife, but it looks like a meal replacement type ‘shake‘.

I’m always a bit suspicious of those sorts of products as they are usually heavily marketed as an instant fix, but can often include quite high levels of simple carbs and sugars to make them palatable.

It also often seems like quite an expensive approach, when moderate-low carb real food is more of a sustainable approach in the long term?

We have had a few members who chose to use shake-type approaches for the Newcastle 800cal diet, but not this brand I don’t think.

Did/do you use shakes @ColinUK? Any advice to offer?

I think they (and their lawyers) prefer the term Multilevel Marketing! But yes, that's the usual worry about Herbalife: because of how it's sold it tends to be expensive relative to its value and those most enthusiastic about it tend to be financially dependent on its success.

Multi-level marketing (e.g. Herbalife, Kleeneze, Forever Living Products, etc.) are perfectly legal. No-one gets paid unless products are sold.

Pyramid schemes (illegal) are a different kettle of fish! There, people make their money by recruiting others into the scheme. The higher level you join at, the more you pay, and the more money those recruiting you make as a result. No incentive to actually sell any products to generate income.

Few people who join Herbalife will ever make any money from the company.
Those who do, make money primarily from recruiting new Herbalife distributors, convincing them to buy product, and getting them to recruit even more distributors. Simply put, because Herbalife’s incentive structure rewards recruiting as opposed to retail product sales, Herbalife is a pyramid scheme. It lures in new distributors by promising riches and preying on entrepreneurial dreams but the truth is that 89% of Herbalife distributors will never earn a penny from the company.
