Hi,

I'm Trace, been diabetic round about 27 years now and still not really got the hang of it. My sugar levels have always been pretty erratic ranging from high's down to hypos. Six years ago when I moved to Warrington the hospital here changed my insulin to Novorapid and Levemir to try to sort things and it seems to have worked as my results are more 'normal' than the high 20+'s I was used to. They've just introduced me to carb counting to try and help even more and I've just basically started on this in the last month and though I find it easy enough to count the carbs, when I match this with the insulin 1 unit to 10 carbs I'm still having highs and a lot of night hypos (which mess the next days results up for me) - all in all I'm just totally confused about it all  and whilst looking dejectedly on the net for help I found this site. It's just great to find people who are coping with the same things I am - I'm just so happy to be here! 🙂

Hi Trace

welcome to the forum. I also have problems with nighttime hypos - they leave me feeling rough for all of the next day. Do you normally wake up with yours? What dose(s) of levemir are you on. I take a lot less in the evenings than the mornings which has cut down on the nighttime hypos a bit.

Feel free to ask any questions you want (nothing is considered stupid here) or just to have a whinge to people who know what you are on about

Rachel

Hi,

Thanks for the welcome, wonderful to talk to people who know what I'm talking about - my partner tries hard, but I guess if I have problems then what chance does he have.

Yeah Rachel, aren't night time hypos just the worst!!!! Yeah I usually wake up but most of the time I'm right in the thick of it and not the best - just keep some lucozade next to the bed and a packet of sweets so I can deal with it fast. My levemir is one dose of 17 in the evening, usually around 10 o'clock-ish.

Hi Trace! I'm catching up with you at 19 years of t1 under my belt 😛

I too have problems with night time hypos which haven't budged despite moving my basal and splitting it. Very frustrating.

This place is awesome because we all know exactly what you're talking about, which is reassuring!

Carb counting does take time and practice. If you're struggling highs at certain times of the day, you could talk to your team about fiddling with the ratio (for example, I'm on 3 different ratios for different times of the day).

Hello 🙂

I'm new here too, and everyne seems very friendly!

Welcome aboard!

Hi Trace

I'm new on here too and also have problems with night time hypos. They generally happen between 3am and 4am. They drive me mad and I hate the way they make me feel the next day. Take care

Hi Trace, welcome to the forum.
