Joined for info and experiences of similar situations. After 10 years of Metformin my GP has taken me off it and ordered tests on my kidneys. Obviously a little concerned especially the waiting and the unavailability of face to face with GP.

Hi there Montgomery. Would you mind telling us what led up to the doc saying that - and what actual tests he has asked you to have?

Routine Cardiology blood test revealed renal function decline. eGFR at 37ml/min previously at 51. Creatinine up to 154 and Urea at 13.1
tests ordered: blood urine and renal ultrasound scan

So for what reason did the doc tell you he was stopping your Metformin - or are you not looking for people who've improved their BG enough to stop taking it, but rather for people who have both heart disease and kidney problems?

Doc thinks metformin could have damaged my kidney function. Also blood pressure medication may have had some effect. So I’m looking for experiences of similar situations where the medication regime is a balancing act between diabetes and heart failure.

Sorry to hear about your reduced kidney function @Montgomery

I’m not quite sure which heart problems you tests are assessing your risk of, but we have a few members who have had various heart procedures including surgery for or risk of stents/angioplasty etc. Hopefully they will be along to share their experiences if they are appropriate to your situation.
