Type 2
Hi all I’m new and type 2.
Need some advice 3 weeks ago I had high bloods 28.7. My metformin has been doubled to 4 a day also an extra tablet but for the past 2 weeks I have had very blurred vision and don’t seem any sign of clearing. I have been to optician and she can’t see any damage. Has someone else gone through this and how long was it before your eyes went bk to normal. My blood sugar is normal now. Thankz

Hi and welcome to the forum. I thought my starting point of 22 was high and my eyesight was all over the place so i can imagine how you feel, it took about 3 months for mine to get back to anywhere near normal, probably a bit longer to be honest. i was scared it would never happen, but once my bloods stabilised things got better.
Getting yours down to normal in three weeks is amazing, have you made any diet changes or just the metformin?

Yes I have made huge diet changes as I was in denial if I’m honest until this happened. I think the tablets helped as well. was your eyes constantly burred for 3 months?

My eyesight was blurred when I was first diagnosed - in fact, it was my first symptom, and it was my optician who suggested I get tested for diabetes, and as I turned out to have type 1 she probably saved my life. I was told not to get new glasses for the first six months, because it can take that long for your eyes to settle down. I think it actually took mine a couple of months, but they were fine after that.

Apparently you can get very cheap reading glasses from places like Poundland which might help in the short term while you're waiting for your eyes to settle.

No, that was what drove me crazy, I would be fine one minute, then they would blur, then back to normal, made driving a nightmare! I thought I had a brain tumour before my diagnosis. Over the three months it still fluctuated as my bloods went up and down but at least I knew why it was happening so it kind of spurred me on to control things.

Hi I also had this problem, fine one day and then couldn’t see my computer screen the next. I was told by my GP that when you go on medication it starts to reverse the problems caused by high bg levels. So the body starts to return the fluid to parts of the body that the high sugar has taken it from including the eyes and that is why the eyes are blurred, the transition is quicker when on medication than when the sugar levels take it from the eyes.
Hope that makes sense, sorry am a bit tired today.
My eyes returned to normal in about a month and have been fine since.
My bg level was 20.3 so slightly lower than yours.
Hope that helps and welcome to the forum.
Sue x
