Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi all,
I was diagnosed type 2 in May, hba1c was 48, LDL cholesterol 3.9.
My figures are a lot better than people I have talked to in Dr's surgery. I am on the DESMOND course tomorrow so hopefully I can improve blood sugars. I will be spending a bit of time on forum soaking up knowledge.

My partner was diagnosed end of may beginning june. His was 48 as well. Nurse told him to exercise and eat low carbs, no medication though.

Yeah I'm control by diet & excercise, my mum and uncle are diabetic, it runs in the family. I got to 61 before being diagnosed. I have cut carbs considerably, Cauliflower mash is my best carb replacement.
Hopefully at my next blood test in October I will have it under control.

We have appt this week with DN. It was not due till October, but I want to see her to ask questions. Do not know whether he has been referred for support. The nurse who took my blood last week says she has, but the doctor who rang him 2 weeks ago says no.

I am so glad I got to register on here. The people are so friendly and helpful. I am still trying to get into a proper routine where I know what I am doing food wise, I don't think I am doing too bad. Cauli mash is a real favourite on here.

I'm just reading Diabetes UK Enjoy Food pamphlet and found a firm offering a free blood testing kit, meter, 25 strips, 30 lancets and pricker, meter testing fluid. Should I post details?

I already have a meter and found it invaluable, I tested seven times a day for a month. This helped me see which foods to watch.

The problem with the free meters is when you need more test strips and find out how much they cost - far better to pay for a meter which has low cost supplies.

Yeah I use Spirit healthcare TEE2 £9.99
50 strips £7.95, lancets £3.95 for 100
I have checked strips for the free one on Amazon £16.95 to £21 for 50
Free meter with 25 strips though
