Just recently diagnosed type 2. Hoping to find some useful information here as apart from being given leaflets and more appointments I don't really know what's going on!

Hello Kreade and SNAP, you get a diagnosis, thrown a few leaflets and then ta-ta. Don’t worry though, loads of useful advice on here. Basically it seems to be the carbs, potato, rice, pasta and bread, that are the worst culprits and cutting down on all carbs reduces your blood glucose levels. I have a meter to check my levels which you can take before a meal, 2 and then 3 hours after which gives a good indication of what suits you and what doesn’t. My GP is happy for me to have one but some aren’t. You will get lots of other advice which will definitely take a while to process but take it a day at a time and remember you can ask absolutely anything on this site and someone will be able to help. All the best to you.

Many thanks. I'm glad it wasn't just me thrown leaflets! Have had really useful info and advice so far.

Seems most people are shocked when diagnosed, I know I was and then off you go and get on with it. My Desmond course is not until June so thank goodness for the diabetes nurse where I work and this site. Try not to be overwhelmed by it all, learn little by little. I veer between thinking I’m doing well and utter frustration that I haven’t got a clue what I’m doing. As I said before ask questions no matter how daft you may think they are, don’t hesitate.

Hi, welcome 🙂 Low carb is the way I chose to go and have never looked back. I’m loving my diet, would never go back to eating carbs no matter what! All you need to know is on these pages and people are so supportive, you will get all the help you need here :D Read as much as you can and then ask any questions you have 😉

Many thanks. I'm glad it wasn't just me thrown leaflets! Have had really useful info and advice so far.
Hahaha, first thing I did. I am reliably informed they make sterling loo roll, once recycled
