Hi Krystal, welcome to the forum 🙂 Has he been diagnosed long, and how is he managing with it? Please feel free to ask any questions you may have and we will be more than happy to help 🙂

Hi there, thank you for the welcome. He was diagnosed last March and has been amazing at sticking to his plan until recently. He has stopped checking his blood sugar levels regularly, probably since around November and is very defensive when you try to talk to him about it. Ashamed to say I checked his meter readings without telling him recently and he had only checked twice in the last two weeks and about once every five days before that. He is 17 so I want to respect his privacy but it's very worrying.

What are is hospital team like Krystal? Is he still under the 'paediatric' team - which should have easy access to psychology services ?

Have you thought about ringing them and asking for tips?

Hi and thanks for responding. I have spoken to him about getting support from the hospital team, who have been amazing, as I understand he might not want to talk to me but he doesn't want to and I don't want to lose his trust. He is such a special person and I just want him to look after himself. He is going to the clinic in two weeks so will try to get him to talk to the doctor then, fingers crossed. Thanks again.

I found I stopped testing when I was young as it all seemed a bit pointless. I was on 2 injections a day so there was less control, if it was high at lunch time i couldnt do anything about it etc. Also my control was good so again i didnt see the point. Having more control with pumps/multi injections makes it far more useful than it was but you have to have the confidence to act on the information, if he doesnt alter doses based on the readings then again he could see it as a mute point. Do you have access to the freestyle libre? not doing finger pricks may encourage him to test more.
