Hello all I am type 1 so this is all new to me still getting my head around it all and scared at the same time xx

Hi Ann and welcome to the forum.
When were you diagnosed? What insulin’s are you using?

I am thinking that your post suggests that it is a recent diagnosis and as you say there is a lot to learn very quicklywhenever you are are diagnosed. I was 53 at diagnosis and there was no evidence of any other person in the family having had T1.

There is plenty of hel available from people on this forum. I have learnt so much from others in here, and there is always someone in here who is happy to answer any questions that I have. This is also the place to have a rant, moanwhatever you need.

No questions are considered silly on here, so just ask. We are here to help.

Hello Ann and welcome to the forum. 🙂 Try not to worry too much you'll soon get the hang of things. A lot of people recommend the Ragnar Hanas book 'Type 1 Diabetes in Children and Young Adults' - obviously applicable to all regardless of age.

Hi
I was diagnosed with type 2 a month ago with my hbac1 was 84 and they started me on metformin twice a day and then I was rushed to hospital 2 days later with my blood pressure really high and bs levels at 30.1 and they started me on insulin once day and they also took bloods as they didn't know what type I had and it came back as me having type 1 not 2 so injecting twice a day now but in a few weeks they want me on insulin 4 times a day so yes it's all new to me at the moment

Hi Ann and welcome 🙂

It is a very steep learning curve to start with but bit by bit the pieces start to fall in to place. 4 injections a day -basal/bolus or MDI- multiple daily injections- will give you the flexibility to chose what and when you want to eat. Basal insulin provides background long acting insulin and bolus insulin is quicker acting insulin injected with the food you eat. You'll learn to count carbs and match the bolus insulin to the carbs eaten. There are courses available that you can go on that explain all this.

The Ragnar Hanas book is a great reference book for all things Type 1 and any questions you have please ask away as there is a wealth of experience on here and someone will be able to help you.🙂
