Hi Im new here I've 2 family members that are diabetic and 1 who's just been diagnosed pre diabetic and I want to help them I had a blood sugar test other week and it wasn't good 9.1. That was 3 hours after eating hence second lot of tests. Last year and half I've been recovering from Deep Vein Thrombosis and Pulmonary Embolism. I'm currently on one of new medications Apixaban. There is a possibility I'm either diabetic or pre diabetes. I have to be careful what I eat due to medication I'm on.

Welcome Debbie. You have come to the right place for support. There is a lot of great advice in the food section as well as useful information about ways of improving control.

Welcome, Debbie, do let us know how you get on with the tests. What sort of foods do you have to be careful about currently?

called up today results are in but won't give them to me over phone so I now have to wait till Friday to see Doctor, worried now, Cranberries can't eat or drink as it affects medication, Broccoli ,have to watch what greens I eat as well., also cholesterol is very high so now need to get it lower ☟

Sorry to hear you have to wait, Debbie. It's tough waiting for results. Should you receive a diagnosis of diabetes, you will find loads of help here and many great recipe suggestions. Best of luck for Friday. Take a pen and notepad along with you and ask for any results so you can write them down.

Thank you I have pad and pen already in my bag, If I'm diagnosed diabetic what's next? What's pre diabetes my aunt has just been diagnosed with it

What's pre diabetes
In simple terms, there is a range of Blood Glucose levels between "normal" and "diabetic" pre-diabetes is just a band between normal & diabetic. However, pre-D does indicate a developing insulin resistance which needs to be treated, Diet & exercise is usually sufficient.

The problem with our diets is that there are too many carbs (not just sugars) so the population as a whole can benefit from reducing carb intake, particularly from processed foods.
