Type 2
I have just been told I'm type 2 diabetic. I'm being tested for type 1 as well as I drop down to 3.8 every afternoon. Is that normal for type 2?

I'm sure someone will be along with more knowledge. I was diagnosed with very high Hba1c and my levels are only just coming down to under 6, even after fasting for over 12 hours.

Hi Sunny, welcome to the group.....

Dropping to 3.8 is kinda low..... What would you have eaten or done prior to reaching 3.8, what is your Fasting Blood Sugar like, Do you test before & after meals?

Thank you. I need food about every four hours it seems, as I am checking my blood before food and then two hours after. I am keeping a diary and it's nearly the same all the time. 6 in the morning low 4 or below before lunch & dinner. Two hours after food between 9 to 13.8. In the low 4's I start to shake and need instant food.

If you are in the 3's & low 4';s a trick insulin dependent D's have is to have some fast acting glucose on hand, a lot of them like jelly babies.

The rise in BG should be between 2-3mmol between before a meal & 2 hours after a meal, sounds like you may be getting too many carbs in your food..... What would be a typical meal, say dinner?

Hello and welcome from a T2. I gather T2s are not expected to be low like that. I could be wrong though.

Hello and welcome. My newly diagnosed sister goes down to just over 4. I told her it's too low. :(

Hi Welcome. It is rare to have hypo's whilst on Metformin. Putting it mildly They are not very nice are they . I treat mine with dextrose tablets rather than jelly babies as I'd scoff the lot and not have any left for hypo treatment, a swig or two of fruit juice is good too.
How did you come to be diagnosed?
I good to hear you're being tested for T1, it sounds like your medics are on the ball ,
Feel free to ask questions.

It's not usual but I did get down to 2.3 once😱 (but I was on Glyburide as well as Metformin).... Since then, when there is a possibility heavy physical activity, I have dextrose tablets in my pack.

Is that the one that's supposed to be really good at getting your BG down.

really good at getting your BG down
Oh yes, Ralph...... 5 months of frequent hypo's..... If I knew then what I know now.....

I should have said, not suppose to hypo. Unless you're taking That.

Well @Grogg1 it's just the effect of Sulfonylureas, how they work & cautions to take in a changing diet......

I was prescribed Glyburide in July of 2005 & immediately noticed odd feelings, especially if I hadn't eaten & was exercising.... Passed them off as nothing. In August I went to Missouri to work for a few months & during this time my diet was evolving from an ADA recommended diet to a much lower carb diet (didn't know about LCHF then but was heading in that direction by myself). During that time I had a couple of bad hypos & lots of minor ones, I put it down to the change in climate (as I live in the mountains of Southern California) or more exercise, or lack of sleep..... Not thinking that a lot of it was down to a changing diet. I also over reacted to some of these hypos by overeating & therefore my BG was going all over the place.
