Hi Welcome. A very worrying time for you and no it doesn't sound strange, We do have a few people on here who have had a Pancreatectomy they should be along soon. I want to reassure you that becoming diabetic is nowhere near as bad as perhaps you might be thinking. Sadly I can't help re your op but I hope all goes well and you make a swift recovery.
Do let us know how you get on.

Welcome as Ljc said we have a number of regular members so hopeful they will be able to help.

Hi jamie
Sorry to hear your distressing news , warm welcome to the forum .

Hi Jamie. I'm thinking it would be a good idea to start a new thread with Pancreatectomy in the title , this will bring it to the notice of our members who have experience with this.

I've got a pancreas but it's pretty much defunct. Keep taking the creon and jabbing the insulin and you will be OK. There are a few of us diabetic creonistas around these parts.

I had mine removed (along with a lot of other bits and pieces) nearly five and a half years ago. I cant honestly say it limits my life🙂

You will not be T1 - different people call it different things, T3 being the most common. Though it is very much treat as T1, though it is a very brittle unpredictable form of diabetes.

I cant relate any horror stories - sorry!

I have an insulin pump (NHS funded) - much better than MDI and a continuous glucose meter (CGM) (self funded...ouch!), but I came to the conclusion I couldn't afford not to have it.

You will join the exclusive fellowship of the Creonistas - there are a number of us on here.

Please ask away and I'll be happy to help in any way I can.
