Thought I might add a bit of info about my journey and how i have got to this point
So i was diagnosed with Type 2 in 2012, i found that I was putting on a bit of weight and that I was always thirsty ( I was not exercising as much as i should having stopped playing football for injury reasons) so my doctor at the time just prescribed me Metaformin and kind of left me too it, i found that these tablets gave me a really bad stomach, bad cramps so I went back to the doctors in early 2013 and got no help whatsoever.
They advised me that I need to lose weight ( i am 5ft 9in and then I weighed around 16 stone but i am a fairy stocky.Muscular guy) and that i needed to continue on the tablets. I really got no help what so ever and this went on for around another year.
I moved to a different county in 2014 and registered with a new doctor who seemed concerned and took a much more active role in trying to get my diabetes under control (i was never advised to do bloods or had a regular blood test) so they set about trying to control my sugars (which were constantly in the mid 15-19), they changed my tablets to a slow release metaformin and gave me a load of advice on diet etc etc
anyway to cut a long story short i am at a point where I have changed my diet (i am on a 3 day no carb diet) and am trying to exercise ( walking the dog,i am due to start playing football again one evening and circuit training one evening, plus I work in London do i average between 4000 and 8000 steps a day (try to walk up and doen the stairs in the tube station) but medication wise I am still at a dead end
I have been on Linagliptin, sitagliptin, Alogliptin/Metformin, Lingliptin/Metaformin,metaformin which have proved useless, non of them helped to level out my blood sugars and for the past 8 months i have been on Tolbutimide which again has not helped
I am due for another blood test on the 10th and a follow up with the diabetes specialist 2 weeks later and i am at the point when i believe that only insulin will be the way forward, so i guess i am looking for advice from those that have been there and are moist definitely more successful with management than me,
