Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
I have just joined this site today, I am Type 1 diabetic and have been for 19 years. I am on the insulin pump which I love and has brought my HB1AC down to around 49/50 due to a tighter control via the pump.

the one thing I do struggle with is my weight and need to lose a few stone, I have just started the LCHF diet

has anyone else tried this and found it works?

Hi Ellie, welcome to the forum 🙂 Great to hear that the pump has been working so well for you! 🙂 I think quite a few of our members have had good success following a LCHF diet, so hopefully it will help you too. I'm sure if you have any questions about it then other members will be able to help, plus there are some lovely tips and recipes in the Food section that you might like to browse through 🙂

How about regular exercise? This can really help, alongside changes in diet 🙂

thanks I will defiantly have a browse through the recipes, at the minute I seem to be repeating the same foods over again, I have also introduced walking into my lifestyle, I used to really enjoy swimming but used to suffer a lot of hypos despite drinking a Lucozade beforehand this put me off :-(

Hi Ellie and welcome to the forum.

Hi Ellie,
I've had great results with LCHF previously, I'm just struggling to get back into the swing of things, but I'll get there.
Loads of people on here seem to follow it, so lots of advice around!

Hi Martin, do you stick to the LCHF religiously that's an amazing weight loss 🙂

I am not fanatic about it, I do allow myself treat days but try to be sensible & avoid carby foods.

At DX I was 220lb, the Dr. told me to get to 180lb (I thought no way could I do that), about 25lb came off in about 9 months while steadily reducing carbs & getting angry at myself when my meter told me I'd screwed up. During the latter half of the year I was getting frequent hypos because of the Glyburide so I figured I needed to do something.... Then I discovered the Ketogenic Way of Eating, since the new year I have lost another 25lb & am quite happy with my weight now (6' tall)

Another bonus is that being keto adapted it's easy for me to just live on my fat reserves (about 70000 calories) rather then my glucose reserves (about 2300 calories), important seeing as although my day job is as a programmer I also am a Paid Call Firefighter & Search & Rescue team member so sometimes I have to expend significant amounts of energy without a regular meal schedule. That would be impossible on Glyburide.
