A good BG meter (and cheap) is the SD Codefree from Amazon, your GP will probably not give you a meter under prescription.
Additionally (with testing) you will learn what foods affect you, many of us just do not tolerate bread, pasta, rice, cereals & starchy foods like Potatoes.
