Type 2
Evening,

Just diagnosed with type 2 yesterday 30th June.

Not unexpected due to glucose spikes showing in past medicals. looking for bit of advice on diet and a better understanding.

Not much more to say i'm afraid

Thanks

Welcome to the forum, glad you found us. Lots of lovely people here. 🙂

Hi. You have come to the right place for info and some support.
I'm guessing that like many of us at diagnosis that you haven't been given much info.
So feel free to ask questions .
It's best not to buy diabetic foods etc some of them are sweetened with something like sorbitol and to much of that will give you plenty of exersize in the loo race :D they are often higher in carbs and always more expensive.
It helps if you cut down on the starchy carbs , potatoes, bread, rice and pasta, our bodies turn them into glucose quite rapidly.
Have they put you on any diabetic meds
Have they given you a meter so you can test your BG (blood glucose)

I have had spikes over the last few years which have shown in my medicals ( offshore ).
Weight lose has helped in the past but I have been ignorant and not heeded many signs :(
Now its Metformin 500 x 2 and atorvastatin 20 x 1

I spend lots of time in Asia so rice is my main concern and have posted in the food section, hoping for some advice.

AND, thanks for the welcome in a troubled time

Hiya - the atorvastatin is to reduce your cholesterol, which has absolutely nothing to do with treating diabetes.

ty, I am aware of the function of a statin, my concern for T2 is a lchf diet and how that will affect my cholesterol as with family history of strokes I am weary of high fat / saturates.

Only you can make the judgement about diet, however, many of us have experienced significant cholesterol reduction, Myself, a year ago, Triglycerides were off the chart & LDL was not measurable asa consequence, this year Triglycerides are normal, HDL in the healthy range & LDL slightly elevated (that was after only 6 weeks on LCHF). I need to book a new Lipid panel in the next week or 2 to see where I am at after 6 months LCHF.

It literally took me months to get my head around it, I was just tired of the false & real Hypos that I was getting with the Glyburide, yet without the Glyburide BG was not where I wanted it!!! I originally was looking at more of a Mediterranean Diet, but I'm prone to do things in the extreme!!!

Something I forgot to mention was that after years of high BP I went for my Commercial Drivers Medical last week & BP was on the low end of acceptable; that in itself reduces my risk of stroke significantly, was it the diet? weight loss? or Lisinopril? Don't know.

I'm a lifting supervisor, stage 3 crane op. with high reading I cannot operate a crane for increase risk of hypo/ rescue

these people aint got a clue. I try talk but they dont care dont want to know

My cholesterol has also gone down since going LCHF. It's hard to believe with everything we have been told about healthy eating & here l am stuffing my face with butter, cheese, cream & bacon & now a lot healthier than I've ever been.
