Have been diabetic since 1989, currently on novo rapid and lantis have been fortunate to be really well controlled for the last 25/26 years but the last 6 months have become really neurotic (more so than normal lol) with bloods that appear to have a mind of their own with no reasoning and repeated uti's. Can anyone shed any light, does your insulin requirements go up with age? Thanks x

Hi Jess and welcome to the forum

I believe insulin resistance can occur in Type 1's over time and they sometimes prescribe metformin to take along with insulin to help with this. I've not had any issues myself but it may be worth discussing it with your diabetes team.

Plus of course your basal needs will change every few months or so anyway, so you have to keep on top of them all your days. No - we hadn't used to be told such things! - if they even knew? - but they do now so they tell us.

Have you had any lifestyle changes over the last few months? New job, menopause, anything really? I find stress makes my levels rise more than i'd have thought.

Yes have increased my working hours from 3 days a week to 5 days (currently have Christmas off) I have two Sons the older (17) has been very "trying" recently .... Which would obviously explain the increase in bloods over the last few weeks and the constant uti's. My basal has always since being on lantis been between 14 /16 units in 24 hours. I've never worried this much about it in 25 years
