Hello everyone, my son was diagnosed type 1 in Sept age 14yrs. Thought I was coping well with his diagnoses to start but after our 2nd clinic appointment which wasn't great feel I needed to find somewhere I could get advice, glad I found this forum.

Hi Nicole, welcome to the forum 🙂 Very sorry to hear about your son's diagnosis :( What happened at the appointment? What insulin regime is he on?

There are lots of people here happy and willing to help, with an awful lot of experience, so please let us know any questions or concerns you may have. One thing that I would recommend, if you don't already have it, is getting a copy of Type 1 Diabetes in Children, Adolescents and Young People by Ragnar Hanas. It's a really excellent reference covering all aspects of living with Type 1.

Looking forward to hearing more from you 🙂

my son is on novorapid and levemir. the appointment was ok in being informative just upsetting as my son was hoping to get his expert meter and through his own fault really was not allowed it as he has recently decided not to check his bsl as often as he should, some days not at all. I think I was more upset than he was. But he seems to be getting back on track checking with little reminders and has one more chance to get it before Christmas, (so fingers crossed).
He just seems to be hard work, typical teenager I suppose, lots of attitude, whatevers and I don't care.

I was given the book you mentioned when he was first diagnosed in hospital by his diabetic team, I do keep referring to it for odd bits and pieces.

Hi Nicola welcome to the forum. I feel for your son, it is hard enough going through his teenage years with diabetes as well it is difficult. Heres hoping he gets to grips with it and is allowed his new meter, you will get lots of help and good advice on here...Tintin 🙂

Sorry to hear he's not been testing as he should. It's best if it can become just routine - far better to take the few seconds it takes to do a test than to endure the grief and guilt avoiding them brings, far more hassle! 🙂 Sounds like you have a good team supporting you, hopefully he will get back into the testing and get the Expert, I know a lot of our members have found it to be very useful 🙂

Hi Nicole. Welcome to the forum. 🙂 Sorry to hear about your son's diagnosis. You've found a great place here for advice and support. Hope your son gets back on track with his finger-pricking soon.😱😛

Have a good read about the "Freestyle Libre" Cos it would be brill at this type of thing. You or anyone can use the reader even when the person is sleeping. Please sign the petition cos I would not give mine back. Good luck 😉
