Type 2
I have just found out that I have type 2, and booked for a diabetic clinic next week, I am scared stiff in what I may find out as I am a hgv driver and wonder if DVLA will remove my licence, will I get all my proscriptions free or will this cost me a arm and leg,

Welcome to the forum, flash123.

Prescriptions are free in England for people who need medication to treat their diabetes. You'll need to ask your GP to fill in the correct form to get a card that lasts 5 years.

Driving restrictions depends on treatment - see here https://www.gov.uk/diabetes-driving

Welcome to the forum, Flash by name, flash by nature, Woof!! (sorry, BlackAdder reference there). :D

Yes, diagnosis is a time of fear, but put that aside quickly! There is the possibility that you can end up in a better, healthier place than you were before. It does depend on a few things though, not least, if you are overweight, needing to shift some of that.

I was diagnosed in October 2009, lost 4-5st and am now medication free and have been for over four years. My last blood test (HbA1c) was the best ever, so no signs of deterioration yet.

Good luck with everything and ask loads of questions. There are plenty of people with really excellent advice/experience here.

Andy 🙂
