Hi everyone,

I was diagnosed with type 2 in 2004 and have recently been put onto insulin (just over 3 weeks ago). I've managed to overcome my needle phobia, as I wasn't looking forward to the thought of injecting, but my diabetes team were very understanding and gave me tiny 5mm needles for the insulin pens so that helped.

good afternoon phil and a warm welcome to the site i was diagnosed in feb and in about 5 days time will get to know if im going on insulin i am very nervous but if the new dose of pills im on are doing me good then i might avoid it x im pleased your needle phobia has subsided x do you have good support?

Hi PhilT, welcome to the forum🙂 Well done on coming to terms with your phobia, that can't have been easy. Personally, I think the BG testing hurts more!😱

Thanks

Steff, for the last year my BS levels had been getting gradually higher and my diabetes team put off putting me on insulin for as long as they could but then I started getting all the old symptoms back and they said it would be best to start me on insulin. I know i was nervous at the thought of going onto insulin, but I have been starting to feel a bit better and my BS levels are gradually lowering. I hope the pills you are on work, but going onto insulin isn't as bad as it may seem. Good luck.

PS. My diabetes team are very good, my doctor is very understanding and my nurse Liz is great.

Northerner,

Thanks for the welcome. I still don't like needles, but I have learnt to tolerate them for my own wellbeing. As for BG testing I have to agree with you!

Hi Phil, welcome to the forum.

Recently diagnosed T2 myself, no insulin on the scene................yet!! Fingers crossed I can manage without. Well done on coping, even though you have a needle phobia!

xx

Hi Helen,

Thanks for the message. Hope you manage to avoid the dreaded needles for as long as possible!

Best of luck with everything.
