Relationship to Diabetes
Type 2
Hi, I was diagnosed with Type 2 18 months ago and i'm still trying to get my head around everything. I'm currently looking to get more advice on how to keep fit, and gain back a little weight i've lost over the last 6 months (safely!).

Hi spaceboy250, welcome to the forum 🙂 What sort of exercise are you getting at the moment? Are you on any medication for your diabetes? How have your blood sugar levels been? Sorry for all the questions!

Should have maybe pre empted these questions...

I'm on metformin 4 x 500mg and Gliclazide 1 x 80mg each day.

I currently have no real exercise regime to speak of, but walk the 15 mins to and from work each day.

My Blood Sugar levels have been high recently as i've been going through a fairly significant change in lifestyle, but are now coming down now and will fluctuate between 6/7 to 9/10 (which I know is still too high).

I understand this increased BG levels and my erratic diet of late will have contributed to the weight loss, but i'm beginning to be quite concerned at my overall fitness level which is fairly poor, and the balance and need to put weight back on.

sorry for the rant, i'm at a bit of a loss

A warm welcome space boy. When I was loosing weight I tried increasing my fats, which seemed to slow down the process. Would be worth getting yourself checked out at the doctor's though.

Hi Spaceboy 250 & welcome. Well done for the good attitude right from the start. walking to work is a good thing to do & a good start to the day 🙂 In the late 80s I worked in Cardiff for 6 month in a shop refit. We staid in cathedral road & walked past Cardiff Arms Park 7.30am every morning. You could feel the crowds even then. A nice place to be.

Hi space boy a warm welcome to the forum

Hiya, I'm just a bit confused re the weight loss to be honest - was it the stress of whatever lifestyle change that caused it? cos otherwise I'm a bit confused if you did it on purpose and are now underweight - or is it muscle you've lost hence the weight going with it?

Thanks for the welcomes everyone.

The weight loss was very much not intentional, it's been a fairly turbulent time recently, with quite a bit of stress which I am hopefully coming out of the other side of. It feels like continued weight loss, rather than loss of muscle but I can't be sure at the moment. I'll book another appt. with my GP, as well as an appt. with a dietician.

my concern is striking a balance with cardiovascular exercise, with the need to put weight back on as one may well counter act the other. Does anyone know of any resources in this board (or another) around fitness regimes in general with T2 diabetes?
