Hi
I'm Donna, 38, type 1. I was diagnosed at 19, my brother 8 months before me. I've been carb counting for about two months prior to that I was on fixed doses but was probably very badly controlled.
I'm taking much better care now, HBA1C now down to 42/6.

Hi Donna, welcome to the forum 🙂

Hello Donna, I are fairly new here think about a month now, these guys on here are great, don't be scared to ask any questions I have learnt more in a month than in ten years of trying to manage on my own, also nice to hear from people going through the same things as we are, my sugar levels were poor 12 to 14 first thing in morning but since using this forum got down to between 6-8, don't feel like I am on my own any more 🙂🙂

Hi Donna - welcome to the forum !
I'm in a similar situation to you - I'm 37 years young and I was diagnosed aged 19 🙂
What type of insulin regimen are you on ?

Welcome DonnaCT.

It's a shame it's taken so long for you to change / be changed from fixed doses (were those bimodal insulin) to adjusting your own doses to what you're eating / doing. Hope you're finding life easier with carb counting etc, and it's always good to get an improvement in HbA1c with the added convenience, isn't it?

Welcome to the forum DonnaCT 🙂

Hi
Thanks so much for the lovely welcome. I'm on Lantus which I split, and Novorapid. I've been on those for about ten years after my first child. I had an epiphany in August and realised I needed to do something. I had my annual diabetes check up and as I'd find some research I asked about carb counting. My dsn ( at gp's ), said a categorical no. They don't do it there so it wouldn't be possible.
So I asked where I could go, she huffed and gave me a leaflet with a phone number on it. Of course, on phoning them, they said I needed to he referred. It took six weeks for my dsn to finally do that. Within a month I was on a course. The dsn there is fab. I've already had a follow up with her and she's happy to see me again.
My levels have been loads better, the week before the course I had 35 hypos!
I've lost nearly a stone and a half and am exercising and sleeping better too.
I'm so grateful to have been able to go on the course. X

Hello Donna, what a shocker that your team put you on Novorapid & Lantus but didn't show you how to get the best from them 😱 It's great that you've taken matters into your own hands and this forum will be such a help too. I have a 16 yr-old with T1 and we have learned masses on here 🙂
