So I'm 16 and have been a diabetic since I was 14. I'm still learning and have had my pump for alittle longer then a month and am loving it! My life has never been any better since being diagnosed. I would just like some help on how to better my life and still enjoy things while I can.
P.S
Still as scared as ever. :(

Hello ScareDiabetic, welcome to the forum! 🙂 Good to hear that you have a pump and are very happy with it - we have lots of very experienced pumpers here so if you ever have any questions please ask away - no question is considered 'silly' 🙂 Hopefully, the lovely people here can help to make you feel a little less scared about it all 🙂

Welcome to the forum 🙂

Well I've had T1 now for 40 years and can well remember that scared feeling. I remembered it last year when I first had my pump - I'd got over the original lot by then! - but pumping was so, so different to what I'd known ever before, I had trouble with it, same as I did in 1972.

My advice? - go with the flow. When you feel like going and having a cry, go and have one. Obviously not if you are just walking across a tightrope but then, I found it was more when my mind wandered, not when I was otherwise concentrating.

Try reading a book to occupy your mind. The book I would very much suggest you read is this one

Type 1 diabetes in children, adolescents and young adults

by Ragnar Hanas.

It's good reading for anyone with T1 even if you are old and crusty LOL and it isn't as 'science textbooky' as some of em.

The more you can learn about your diabetes, the less you will fear it. Honest !

Good luck.

You are right to be scared because it is scary but experience and knowledge will help. I bet you know loads already and if you are uncertain ask away.

Welome to the forum 🙂 Glad to hear you like the pump.

Thanks for the words! Right know it's really kicking in that this is the rest of my life and I can't remember what it's like not to worry about taking a shot or checking my sugar while playing a sport or eating. I hate trying to feel if my sugars low and need to check it. I'm scared to eat, leave my house or play a game of vollyball. I tired of being tired and having all these bruises.

My sister is also T1D and it's hard on our family. I have it the worse then she does. I have liver disease, pancreantitis, acid reflex, thyroid problems and feet problems.

P.S
I'm a christian and don't wear pants or shorts. Only for bed. So it's hard to exercise in skirts below the knees. Any tips? Tired of being in the house.

That's quite a catalogue of problems for a 16 year old 😱 - were you diagnosed with these before you diabetes diagnosis or after? Are you on any other medications besides your insulin?
