Welcome Ruth. I am fairly new to this but have already found it invaluable. I was feeling so alone with all the diabetes stuff but now feel like i have a whole group of friends and it is just a great feeling.

My son is 12, type 1 and diagnosed nearly two years ago. Currently on 4 injections a day but due to start on a pump on 7th July.

You will certainly find lots of support here. 🙂🙂

Hello & welcome Ruth

just connecting into your forum as a real newbie to this sort of thing. My daughter was diagnosed last week with type 1 just 6 days after her 3rd birthday, great birthday present for her!! My wife and I are struggling with this at the moment and we are questioning whether we are up to it? I know we will be but to be honest we're petrified, in such a short time our daughter seems to have become obsessed with food and won't stop eating. We are obviously finding our way round this condition and will probably be on this site regularly asking for help and advice, not just about the condition of our daughter but the impact it has on the family and friends who surround her.

Thanks for your time..it's much appreciated

Hi Ruth,

Really glad that you have joined the forum because I can only imagine it must very scarey and difficult being the mum of a 2 year old with diabetes.

There are some lovely, lovely parents in here with so much to share and so much support to give I am sure this will benefit you. I cant offer you much in that department as I havent popped a sprog out yet, but I have learned a lot from the others as well as enjoyed their company on here! One of the best things I did was find this website as the support it has offered me is something I have come to rely on, it is just a shame (as many have said) that it wasnt around during my diagnosis. Im not sure from you post how long your daughter has had the diagnosis but even those of us who have had this a while need to ask questions and get knowledge from others so dont hesitate to post.

I hope you find a warm welcome and Im sure you will make some good contacts here with parents who understand what you and your daughter go through.

Lots of love, Lou

BEEFY! I think you write that while I was writing to Ruth, but a warm welcome to you as well! As I said to ruth, the parental support and particpation in this forum is strong and I hope you find some confort and reasurrance. It must be a great shock right now? Keep returning to the forum and I hope we can help you wherever possible (even when we dont have the answers, a community of people who understand exactly how you feel is sometimes all you need).

Lots of love, lou

hi Ruth wecome and feel free to ask my boy is now 5 he was diagnosed when he nwas 3 i had and still have lots of ups and downs😛😉:D

Hi beefy,
I'm glad you found this site so soon after your daughter's diagnosis. Our son Ben was diagnosed in Nov and at times we've really felt lost, us against the world. Our healthcare professionals have been a good support but most clearly have no real understanding of the impact this has on your life, unfortunately this can also be the case with family/friends. In the few days since i've logged on here I can see what a huge support people here can offer - not too mention much needed advice. We were told how a year on it will be just a part of our lives and things will be so much easier and while i now think that is far from the reality the initial shock/panic/depression does subside but its great to have people on hand to talk to on the particularly bad days.
take care
ruth
