hi was diginoused with type 1 about 6 months ago, i say about like anybody will ever forget the day that your told! i was a bit of a odd ball case as they think i prob had it a fair while before i got diganosed well over 3 months prob about 6!!! but its all going well now had my hba1c reading of 5.7 last week so was very pleased with that!! but looks as if i have now developed celiac disease so just gearing my self up for the next battle!!!

Hi Lou

A warm welcome to the forum from me, thats a great hbA so well done on that, sorry to hear about your celiac diagnsis they are some members on here who also have diabetes and celiac so hopefully they will be able to help that bit more x

Hi Loulou, welcome to the forum 🙂 It sounds as though you are doing pretty well to get such an excellent HbA1c, so well done! Anything you are unsure of, please ask - some of the people here have got nearly 50 years experience, so there's not much that someone hasn't had some experience of 🙂

We also have quite a few members with Coeliac disease as well, so hopefully you can get some help with that too. What insulin are you on?

i can never remember the names but i inject 4 times aday each meal time and then my long acting at night! i am still on my honeymoon period and my consultant said this could last upto 2 years because of my control so i am only on low dosages at the min whats good, i am hopeing this might be a helpful place as i don't know anyone with diabetes so be nice to hear first hand from peoples experinces with the condistion

Welcome to the forum LouLou.

I wonder whether the celiac disease (I had to look it up) is part of the same thing which caused your pancreas to stop producing insulin?

Anyway, I hope you deal with that as well as you've dealt with your diabetes. 5.7% is no mean achievement.

Andy 🙂

thanks it is amazing how excitied you can get over a hba1c test🙂 there is a link between type 1 and celiac disease both being autoimmune disease so i am now just waiting for the next one! just have to look on the positives and i am defo the glass is half full kinda girl so i have just got on with it, no point mopeing around! just keep smiling haha

Hi loulou. Welcome 🙂

Sounds like you're off to a flying start. I hope it carries on for a while to come. 🙂

Rob

Welcome to the forums Loulou.

Hope you have a good look around and find the forum helpful.

Welcome Loulou - and good wishes for dealing with both type 1 diabetes and coeliac disease.

The favourite tip of a friend of mine who has both is "drink cider, not beer, in pubs" - assuming you like pints, but wine & spirits (with sugar free mixers are also OK

luckly i don't really drink beer but thanks for the advice and anymore is welcome to come my way!!! its just thinks like beer that i just wouldn't striaght away think of as containing gulten as silly as it may sound, you just forget now many things contain it!!! it like when you first start carb counting and you realise just now much carb you eat and is in things.
i have received my appointmant today for my biopsy so at least i can start to move forward with it all!!!

Welcome to the forum, I too am surprised at the amount of carbs you find in things. It's something I never used to think about, but now, I can't stop thinking about it. Funny how things change.

it really is shocking that you don't realise what you eat until you have to really look at it!!! and also what is in the food that you eat, especially now that i might have celiac disease. i now have to look at ingredients as well as nutrional info! its all rock and roll being a diabetic!!!🙂

Welcome to the forums loulou 🙂

its all rock and roll being a diabetic!!!🙂

I know what you mean, I've caught myself several times about to launch into some discussion on carbs or insulin or some other related topic, then realise that my friends have no interest in this at all. It's become important to me but to them it's boring. To make it more frustrating, the only other diabetic in my family is my grandfather, so I can't even have a proper 'heart to heart' with someone in the same situation. Which is why I joined this forum. 🙂

i do just the same thing with my friends at the begining they would all nod and smile but now i am just told to be quite (in a nice way)🙂 i know nobody with it, no one in my family or anything, so have no one to talk to who understands so i hope this might be a useful place if i ever have any questions and i can be a right diabetic geek and it will be all ok🙂
