Hello Susie, welcome to the forum.

How have you found your care so far? Are you one of the well informed and cared for brigade or one of the "Here's a leaflet now get lost" brigade?

If it's the latter, (or the former!), then I hope we can help. There's a good bunch of people here with a wide variety of knowledge and experience.

Andy 🙂

Care

My care has been ok, had all my checks in June as I was away for 7 weeks and returned early June.
Been to Desmond which I found very helpful, my next diabetic appointment is early December HbA1c end of Nov, only comment really would be that I would have preferred a follow up appointment after 3 months rather than 6 months, my HbA1c was 6.9 and 6.8 so I suppose I am not a case that needed reviewing after 3 months.
Just a bit surprised today that I went down to 4.9 and did this account for me not feeling well.
On the mend now just need to understand what to expect.

Hi Susie, welcome to the forum 🙂 It's great that you have managed to get on a DESMOND course so soon after your diagnosis. I would also recommend looking in the Useful links thread for more suggestions for good information about how to manage your diabetes (particularly Type 2 Diabetes: The First Year by Gretchen Becker)

It's possible that the 4.9 made you feel unwell if you have been used to higher levels than this - it is known as a 'false hypo', meaning that it is not low enough to cause you problems, but lower than your brain is accustomed to so you can get similar symptoms to a hypo. Having a little to eat normally improves things - something like an oat cracker would probably do the trick 🙂

Hi Susie28, cant help you much, as a newbie to all this, but your readings do sound very good.

I got a meter from my Nurse and self test so I can determine what is good/bad for me. Learnt about that from this forum, and learning each day.

Sure you will find the answers here.🙂

Welcome to the forum Susie28 🙂

Hi Susie warm welcomes to the forum from me

Hi Susie. Welcome 🙂

Rob

Hi Susie and a warm welcome from me too. You sound as though you are doing okay but stick around and ask any questions you have as we never stop learning about this condition.

I'm glad you got on a DESMOND course so soon. I've never been offered one and I'm coming up to my 8th anniversary in November. Take care. XXXXX
