Hi, I am Sandra and am type 2, diagnosed 2 years ago after 3 bouts of pneumonia.
Welcome to the forums
Hello and nice to meet you and anyone else out there. I am looking forward to learning a lot from this site because its straight from the people who suffer with the disease and they are the experts. I am trying to find out where i should post my thread giving more info about how I am trying to manage this condition, so any help from anyone would be much appreciated. Sandra
Hi Sandra, welcome to the forum 🙂 Are you on any medication for your diabetes? How have you been finding it? If there is anything you want to know, please ask - no question is considered 'silly', so if it is bothering you - ask! 🙂
welcome to the forum from me tooo!🙂 ...you can just continue posting here if need be ...we always keep an eye on the newbie section being that we've all been one at some time and had to learn the boards so to speak ....also we dont ever regard any question silly here x
Welcome to the forums Sandra 🙂
Hi, nice to meet you. ive loads I would like to oask.
I was on glucophage up to 3 sachets daily but getting lots of digestive problems so my dietician said to stop taking it for 2 days, but i stopped for 3 and when i started back on it I got the whole tummy upset thing all over again just with half a sachet. So my nurse gave me the glipizide? but I decided not to take them after reading about having regular meals/hypos etc, just cant do that) so for 2 weeks i had no meds. At the same time I started on a low carb diet and managed to reduce my sugar levels to 9 and 10 and then to 7.6 in early evening and lost over half a stone. I have now started myself back on the glucophage at 50ml of the diluted sachet (its 150ml for each one) and am still eating low carb and its sort of ok. However i ate a peach tonite and it soared from 7.6 to 11.7! I managed to get testing strips after going on and on to them so test a lot at the moment. I now know i cannot eat potatoes, porridge, peaches and god knows what else it will be. Anyway Im struggling as not too sure what to do for the best. Hope i havent overloaded you with stuff here, Sandra
It's great that you are able to test, but you do need to be methodical about it in order to make the most of the results. Ideally, you should test before and one and two hours after a meal so that you can determine where the highest level of your blood sugar is, and how much it rises by eating the meal. Have a read of Jennifer's Advice:

There is lots more good reading suggestions in our Useful links thread. Information is the key - it can be a lot to learn and a lot of it is learned through trial and error, so patience is required, but you will get there! 🙂
Regular exercise is great too, if you are able 🙂
glad you are able to test ...peaches yummm love them but cant have them very often ....many fruits for me are a real no no but im finding the berries esp rasberrys great ...
i was a real fruit bat pre dx but now just have it in real moderation ....watch out aswell for any fruit jucie tho.
ps i loved melon before it very sweet now.... cucumber makes a good subsitute !
I also love watermelon but it says NO! Cant beleive that as I thought it was all water. Definately a lot to learn and am glad to have found this site.
