Relationship to Diabetes
Type 1
Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum (and wow this is a massive one!). A bit about myself then... My name's Steph, I've had Type 1 Diabetes for about 14 years now, I'm 27 and live in the North West of England. I'm really here to try and meet other people that are around my age that also have Diabetes to maybe chat to and share experiences/gain support... If anyone fits this bill please let me know 😱 I sometimes get a bit down about my diabetes, although on the whole it's fairly well controlled, but then I always try to remember that there are a lot of people out there in a worse situation than I am! In the past it is something I've found difficult to talk about and try to hide the fact it's there and 'an issue' so I want to try and break down that barrier! 🙂

Hi Steph, im a newbie here myself, trying to find my way still.
Im sure you will find what your looking for.
Good luck.
Geoff

Welcome to the forums Steph 🙂 It's all very friendly here!

Unfortunately I don't live in the North West any more (I was a Prestonite for a while).

Hi steph from a fellow steph, warm welcome to the forum x

Hi Steph, welcome to the forum 🙂 Don't worry - the forum may appear large and very busy, but pick the threads you are interested in and respond when you want, or start your own discussions. No question is considered 'silly', and you are free to rant or whinge whenever you wish - you will find kindred spirits who understand 🙂

We try to arrange regular meet ups around the country, so if you could make it along to one that would be great! I think the next one nearest to you will be the York one on July 2nd, but if you can plan ahead and get some cheap train tickets there may be others on the calendar you can make it to. There is also an organisation called Circle D which organises social events for 18-30s and may have a group in your area. We're hoping to get a Manchester Meet some time in the future. Of course, there's nothing to stop you meeting up with people from here whenever you want 🙂

I look forward to hearing more from you. If you have any problems using the forum, please contact me via the 'Contact' link at the top of the page 🙂

Hi Steph. Welcome 🙂

I'm type 1 but again, not in the northwest and waved goodbye to 27 a long time ago ! :D 🙄

I suspect most of us have not wanted to fully acknowledge our diabetes at some point, so don't feel alone. And a lot of us had never properly met another type 1 until we joined this forum.

Hi Steph, I'm 23 and have had type 1 for 7 years. I joined the forum for exactly the same reasons as you! I have to say that joining the forum is the best thing I have done! I would really recommend going to a meet if there's one near you. I am in the Birmingham area so probably not that close to you but am always happy to travel to meet up for a chat 🙂

Hi Steph and welcome to the forums. It is a bit daunting at first but you'll soon get used to the site, and to us! I'm in the Midlands, and maybe a bit long in the tooth for you at 53, but D is no respecter of age and we all seem to rub along quite nicely. I'm sure you'll soon find that you've done a good thing in joining us, and if you follow up the links Northener has given you, you'll soon have as many friends as you want. Good luck and take care. XXXXX

Hi Steph and welcome.............

I am also 27 years young, I was diagnosed when I was 15 though, so very similar times there..........

On a whole I haven't really noticed my diabetes, I dont know why, my wee bro had it, so maybe I was used to the procedures and processes long before it came to get me.........

Look forward to hearing from you...........😉

Welcome to the forum Steph! 🙂 x

Welcome Steff.

Many people with diabetes (including lots on here) have down days. Diabetes can trip you up when all seems to be going well. So if you are feeling down just come and vent - you may get sympathy, you may get advice, sometimes both.

Although I am in the NorthWest I am a lot older......

Have a good look around and I look forward to seeing further posts from you.
