Hi,

Just saying hello 🙂

I had a high GTT pre-pregnancy and so have been testing since October. In my last 3 weeks of pregnancy now and have managed to stay off insulin so far, just by being uber careful and not eating anything nice! I'm really confused about how to manage my diet though. I know it sounds silly, but apart from avoiding sugar I'm not sure what i'm doing and the dietician has been of zero help at all. I'm just trying to eat healthily and kind of using low GI priniciples, but any advice or links on a sound process to follow would be most appreciated...feel a bit like I'm flailing around in the dark and would like to feel a bit more in control. I have no idea about carbs etc and just tend to look at sugar content...but again, the dietician says there isn't any guidance about what is too much sugar etc.

I'm thinking I'll probably have to eat like this full-stop now, as the high GTT was before pregnancy and so even if things change after birth, I'd like to avoid turning type 2 if I can and I'd like to breast feed, so want to give her as stable a start as I can.

Hi Sugar-free-Sar, congratulations on baby and welcome to the forums.

Northerner has written quite a few book reviews in the book section. If you take a look you might spot one or two that appeal to you.

I am sure he'll post a personal recommendation.

The dietician doesn't sound very helpful. My SIL had gestational diabetes and she was given specific advice on how many carbs she should eat at a meal.

Hope all goes well with baby.

Hi Margie,

Thanks 🙂

Ooh, great - will have a look at those now

Really? That sounds just like the kind of advice I need! I've asked soooo many questions, but she never gives me an answer - I stopped seeing her in the end as it's genuinely been of no help at all...and I really wanted to know.

Thank you - me too...trying to keep positive and do everything I can to help for the last few weeks. Just want her to be okay...

Hi Sarah, welcome to the forum, and congratulations on your pregnancy! 🙂 As margie suggested, I have read a few books and came to the conclusion that the following are very good - they are 'GL' rather than GI, it's more or less the same thing, but GL takes account of portions size:

Please feel free to ask any questions you may have, we have a lot of mums and expectant mums here so I'm sure they can give you plenty of support! 🙂

Welcome to the forum Sarah and congratulations, not long now! 🙂 xx

Hi Sarah and a warm welcome to the forum

Hi Northerner,
Thanks 🙂 and thanks for the links too - just having a look now!
It's feeling like I know what I'm doing diet wise that I'd really like to get on top of

Hi Teapot and Steffie - no, not long... can't wait 😉
