Welcome to the forum @Medusa1

Sorry to hear about your diagnosis - though you aren’t the only one to have been diagnosed in later life here. @SB2015 @Robin @PattiEvans and many others have also been diagnosed in their 50s

How long have you been diagnosed?

Are you on pens? Which insulins have you been offered?

How are things going so far?

Two reference books with a good reputation for T1 on the forum are:

Type 1 Diabetes in Children Adolescents and Young People by Ragnar Hanas - considered to be the 'bible' for children and young people on insulin regimes. But don’t be put off if you are older - this book is relevant to people of all ages!

Think Like a Pancreas by Gary Scheiner - A practical guide to managing diabetes with insulin

Hello, @Medusa1 , and welcome to the club nobody wants to join! I was 51 at diagnosis, there are a few of us 'late arrivals' on here. So shout if you have any questions, there’s a wealth of experience on here, someone is bound to have grappled with whatever it is you come up against.

Hi @Medusa1 and welcome to the forum from me, another late starter diagnosed at 47 - glad everything is going well for you at the moment but if you do need any help with anything, please ask any questions you may have - someone will always pop along with some advice - pleased you have found us

Hi and welcome from me too.
I was diagnosed the day after my 55th birthday but I had been suffering symptoms for a fortnight before and had guessed what it was. Takes a bit of getting your head around it all at first but there is a goldmine of practical experience, knowledge, tips and tricks to deal with the various spanners that diabetes throws into the pot from time to time and most importantly peer support. Nobody truly understands managing Type 1 like another Type 1. Sounds like you are going well at the moment. Long may that last!

Would be interested to know when you were diagnosed and which insulin(s) you are using. Was your Type 1 picked up straight away or were you initially assumed Type 2 like many of us?

Look forward to getting to know you better and if you need help with anything, just ask.

Hi there Medusa

I'm a month or two in to T1D now and 53 years old so not too different.

Welcome to the club.
