It is not a diagnosis that people want to get but it is sometimes a relief as it explains symptoms and gives an opportunity to make some improvements to your life style and by taking the right actions is a very manageable condition.
Were you told what your HbA1C is as that will determine how much work you need to do but hopefully it is not too high and some dietary changes will be all that is needed.
Many find a low carbohydrate approach is successful at reducing blood glucose and losing weight if needed. This link will point you in the right direction and give you some ideas for modifying your diet, you will see there is plenty you can eat and still have filling tasty meals.

Take time to read and make a plan, there is no need to panic.
Depending on how high your HbA1C is you may be prescribed medication but if it is not too high then hopefully you will be given the opportunity to make lifestyle changes for 3 months first.

Hi @Judyluck and welcome to the forum. Being diagnosed with diabetes can be very overwhelming so your reaction is perfectly understandable. Have at a look at the post "Tips for newly diagnosed Type 2 " by @Katetype2 which is pinned at the top of the Newbies forum. It will give you a bit more perspective and hopefully allay some of your initial fears.
Once you have details of your HbA1c results you will have a starting point to begin managing your diabetes. There is lots of information and support from the friendly folks on this forum, so ask any questions, no matter if they may seem silly or trivial to you.
We have all been newbies at some point.
