Hi I'm new here and recently diagnosed type 2
Welcome to the forum
Would you like to say a bit more about your diagnosis as that will help us to help you with any questions you probably have. The important thing is knowing what your HbA1C result is as that will indicate how much you need to do and if you have been prescribed any medication. Hopefully if your HbA1C is not too high you will have been given opportunity to make some lifestyle changes before the medication.
Have a look at this link as it has good explanation about how you may find a way forward with dietary changes. https://lowcarbfreshwell.com/

Thank you. My HbA1C is 48 so told not high. But I am experiencing symptoms. I am currently diet controlled and my weight is was healthy until about 10 weeks ago when I started to loss what the doctor described as rapid weight without dieting. Due to see GP today to discuss. A little worried at the moment and searched on here for rapid weight loss but could not find any threads.

Rapid weight loss but accompanying very high blood glucose, thirst and frequent loo visits are red flags for Type 1.
However at 48mmol/mol that would be odd but not impossible as the HbA1C is an average over the previous 3 months so if it was something that came on rapidly it might be masked by the longer time scale.
There are tests for Type 1 C-peptide and GAD antibodies which your GP perhaps ought to consider however it could be due to something else so do go with an open mind.

How did your appointment go?

The weight loss without trying is a bit of a worry. Even if your T2 classification is right, that’s something that you’ll want to get checked out.

The 4Ts of Type 1 diabetes are toilet, tired, thirsty, and thinner

More about that here: https://www.diabetes.org.uk/diabetes-the-basics/types-of-diabetes/type-1/symptoms

Do you know if a fingerprick blood glucose reading was taken at the same time as you had your HbA1c done? With the atypical aspects of your presentation, that might be an interesting extra snippet of information to have.
